General Principles
All Members and Guests of the Luton Caribbean Cricket & Social Club are required to abide by this Code of Conduct, together with any updates that may be introduced from time to time. By attending the Club premises or participating in Club events or activities, individuals are deemed to have accepted and agreed to comply with this Code and with any other relevant Rules, Regulations, or Codes of Conduct adopted by the Club.
All Members and Guests of the Club shall:
- Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of every individual within the context of cricket.
- Treat all persons equally, without discrimination on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, religious belief, class or social background, sexual orientation, or political belief.
- Display the highest standards of behaviour at all times.
- Promote the positive aspects of cricket, including the principles of fair play.
- Encourage participants to learn, understand, and respect the Laws of Cricket and the authority of match officials.
- Actively discourage unfair play, rule violations, and disputes with match officials.
- Recognise and celebrate good performance, not merely match results.
- Place the well-being and safety of children above the pursuit of performance or results.
- Ensure that activities are suitable for the age, maturity, experience, and ability of each participant.
- Respect children’s opinions when making decisions about their participation in cricket.
- Refrain from smoking, consuming alcohol, or using prohibited substances while working with children under the Club’s care.
- Never provide alcohol to children under the supervision of the Club.
- Follow the guidelines set out in the ECB’s Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children and any subsequent safeguarding guidance issued by the ECB.
- Report any safeguarding concerns relating to a child, in accordance with the ECB’s prescribed reporting procedures.
Responsibilities of Club Officers and Appointed Volunteers
In addition to the above, all Club Officers and Appointed Volunteers shall:
- Undergo appropriate vetting, where required, before assuming their role.
- Hold relevant qualifications and be covered by appropriate insurance.
- Work in an open and transparent manner, avoiding private or unobserved situations wherever possible, and actively encouraging openness.
- Clearly communicate the requirements of cricket to players and parents.
- Understand and comply with the ECB’s Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children.
- Develop relationships with young players based on mutual trust and respect.
- Ensure that any physical contact with young players is appropriate, necessary, within recommended guidelines, and carried out with the player’s consent.
- Never engage in any form of sexually related contact with a young player. This includes sexual innuendo, flirting, inappropriate gestures, or language.
- The ECB follows Home Office guidance which states: “People in positions of trust and authority must not engage in sexual relationships with 16–17 year olds in their care.”
- Attend relevant training to remain up to date with their responsibilities, particularly in relation to safeguarding children.
Disciplinary Action
If a breach, or suspected breach, of this Code of Conduct occurs, the Club reserves the right to take such action as it deems appropriate. This may include, but is not limited to, requiring the individual responsible to leave the Club premises.
Any disciplinary or complaint matters arising from a breach will be addressed in accordance with the Club’s disciplinary procedures, as outlined in the Club Constitution or Cricket Section Regulations, as amended from time to time.
